I had dinner with my family at the new Sitar India location (the old Lonestar Steakhouse on the Blvd). We were big fans of the old location and I was looking forward to going back. Unfortunately, the meal was a disaster. We ordered two main courses and some sides along with another order to go to pick up on the way out (for our son at home). The first main course that my wife and I were splitting showed up fairly promptly, but my daughter's didn't. Eventually an entree showed, but it was wrong (Chicken Tikka rather than Chicken Tikka Masala). We told this to the staff person (not our waiter) right as he was setting it down, he looked confused, and walked away leaving the food. While three or four other staff came by to pour water and clear other plates, but the wrong food sat there and our correct order never came even though we told everyone what was wrong. Our waiter finally showed up 20 minutes later (the restaurant only had three other tables filled) and seemed totally confused by what was going on. We got the order to go, picked up our take-out and left. The waiter blamed the new computer system, but it seemed to us that they had fragmented responsibilites and no one was talking to each other.
OK, enough gory details. Anyone else been to the new location and how was their service?

I haven't been to the new Sitar, but here is a good solution: Green Leaf. We ate there last night and it was as good as always.

I ate there with a friend a few nights ago and the service was fine. We didn't order any extra items outside of the main dishes except lassis. I wouldn't let one night of bad service sway you, but as RPP posted there are other avenues to explore. Mint in Chapel Hill and Green Leaf maybe good. I've not been to the latter but from what I understand he also rotates items based on the day of the week… I think this is mentioned on the website.

We've been to Green Leaf twice and have enjoyed it. I like the rotating themed buffets. I won't give up on Sitar yet….

As a newbie to Durham, I wasn't able to experience the old Sitar restaurant, but I have to say I was completely underwhelmed by the Friday night buffet at their new location, especially for the price. Except for one spectacular eggplant dish, everything seemed bland and mediocre, including the naan. I will second and third the Green Leaf recommendations, however… their food is incredible and it even costs less. Definitely worth a visit.

we've only been to the new sitar once since it opened in the new location. basically as soon as we got the check and realized that the buffet was twice the price of the old buffet for the same medium quality buffet food we were not very pleased. happily we live near kebab and curry and get delivery from there fairly frequently. haven't had a chance to try green leaf out yet, but we should it seems.

I'd say indian craving calls for a ride to Udupi or Saffron, depending what you are after.

Definitely agree. We have had really good experience at GreenLeaf. Buffet is good, price is cheap and staff is very sweet.
