I finally stopped in at the bright yellow and red restaurant that always catches my eye while driving down Fayetteville. You know the one, with the claim that “We Feed Durham,” on one side of the sign and “Deuteronomy CH8V3” on the other.

Yep, that’s the place. It’s Dillard’s Bar-B-Q and they’ve got some fun murals on the side of the restaurant that add to their charm, in addition to being a restaurant recognized by the city for their contributions to the Durham food scene over the past 50 …

Full Disclaimer: I am already a huge fan of Guglhupf for brunch, afternoon coffee and writing, lunch, dessert, whatever. So, I was very excited to try their new dinner menu, which they’ve been serving for two months and I was probably predisposed to love it. That said, it wasn’t perfect but my review is probably a bit rose-colored. Also, I promise my next review here will be a cheap eats spot!

William’s Gourmet Kitchen is a popular spot for breakfast and lunch right where Highways 54 and 55 intersect.

Its atmosphere is definitely that of a fast food restaurant but one that is very clean, welcoming, and decorated with fun artwork on the walls (presently Big World Photography by Lorri Honeycutt). Free wifi is available, which is always a plus.

A new Mexican restaurant, El Rancherito, has just opened up in the Lakewood neighborhood (2300 Chapel Hill Rd)‎. Grayson’s Cafe left this location, but their other locations (3600 N. Duke St. and 433 Murray Ave.) remain open, I assume. Sadly, I never had the chance to eat there, but YAR liked it quite a bit. It’s too early to say whether the trade of this Americanized-Mexican place for the former breakfast diner/cafe will be for the better. There’s no shortage of either menu in Durham.
