The Farmhand Foods Sausage Wagon premiered to a large, enthusiastic crowd at Fullsteam on Wednesday. The line wrapped to the corner of Geer and stayed that way for most of the night. The three guys working the truck did a nice job keeping up with the crowd and everyone seemed in good spirits despite having to wait sometimes more than an hour for a sausage.

On their first night they had four sausage offerings and one veggie sandwich option. We tried all four of the sausages, all four were …

So it’s a long time coming and by now most of our readers have probably checked it out for themselves, but a CD review of the big red Indian Truck/Bus seemed essential for the complete Durham coverage we strive for here on Carpe Durham.

We’ve eaten there a few times and enjoyed everything we’ve had, especially the Chicken Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala. The Naan has been a little skimpy and limp, but other than that no complaints. The menu varies but the regulars seem to be the chicken dishes, …

Joey D’s NY Dogs

Joey D’s NY Dogs is a new food cart offering freshly grilled, Sahleen brand hot dogs and sausages from Buffalo. Joey’s website declares that they are traditionally “garnished with fewer toppings than in other cities. Why? When grilled, these hot dogs taste good enough to enjoy on their own.”

Joey hopes to expand to more carts and a food truck in the future, but for now, the operation is limited to a portable grill cart and lots of coolers.

Those umbrellas in the back are where Joey D’s NY Dogs are for …

There’s a new way to beat the heat and a new truck on the mobile scene in Durham - Don’s Italian Ices. Former Park Diner owner Don Mazzia has started churning out homemade, fresh, semi-healthy (lots of agave and organic options) Italian Ices and selling them around town.

Flavors include classics like blueberry and strawberry ($2 for a large cup) and fancier options like organic kalawi peach, tart cherry vanilla and more ($3 a cup). This Saturday at the farmer’s market, Don had a total of nine flavors and was more …

My mouth is still on fire from the sweet, spicy BBQ pork taco from Bulkogi, the Korean taco truck that has set up shop in the Wachovia parking lot on 9th street.

Apparently the same truck used to make appearances at the Raleigh Fair Grounds. I talked to the very nice lady who is running Bulkogi and she said that they are just starting but that they plan on setting up in the same spot nightly from 5/6pm until 8pm. Got that? Korean tacos will be sold every night in …

According to this post in the Carpe Durham forums (which more people should use!), there is a new Indian food truck parking outside Sam’s.

Anyone have more info?

Did you know there’s a pie CSA (well CSP – Community Support Pie) in Durham?

Scratch bakery sets up at the Durham farmers market on Saturdays and in addition to selling a variety of pies and baked goods, they run a pie CSP.

To join, it’s $65 for four happy weeks of pies. You get to choose between three small pies or one large and whether you want sweet or savory. You pick up your pies at the farmer’s market on Saturdays.

If a $65/month pie habit is too rich for …

Based out of Chatham County, Liberación Juice makes the journey to Durham on Saturday mornings and sets up at the farmers’ market next to the Scrap Exchange. The bright green bus, run by Zulayka Santiago, blares cheerful music, encourages hula hooping and offers up tasty, organic smoothies.

In addition to their nutrient-packed smoothies, Liberación Juice serves fresh-pressed juices, teas and a warm hot chocolate drink for the cooler months.
