GreenToGo reusable takeout container program needs funding!

Posted by CDB 23 Nov 2016 No Comments

Need an outlet for all that holiday spirit? Concerned about the health of the environment? Consider donating to the following Kickstarter campaign for GreenToGo.

The reuse/recycling advocacy group  Don’t Waste Durham is starting a reusable takeout container program called GreenToGo. The program will reduce the waste from single-use takeout containers. The group has already persuaded many local restaurants to discontinue their use of styrofoam containers, as you may have already taken note of around town. One of the main players in the group is a long-time Durham cheerleader who was largely responsible for the fantastic Marry Durham celebrations.
From Don’t Waste Durham:
“The aim is to reduce trash in our community and provide guilt-free takeout convenience! This community-owned, zero-trash solution for takeout food lets people check in and check out reusable boxes which are washed and sanitized in commercial dishwashers and returned to the restaurants for the next customer. This program is already succeeding in Portland and San Francisco. We want Durham to be the first city on the East Coast!”
The list of participating restaurants and food trucks is a veritable hit parade of culinary delights–23 businesses and counting. The campaign deadline is December 6th and the group has about 50% funding so far. They need your help to keep Durham growing into a healthy city!
