Bull City Ciderworks

Bull City Ciderworks, located on a side street between downtown and Golden Belt, feels a bit like Fullsteam a few years ago. The taproom is offering five ciders by the glass, growlers or a flight for four tasters for $7. Located next to a body shop, the taproom has a handful of tables and picnic benches, a cornhole set and a lovely little bar.

It has that somewhat ubiquitous aesthetic that we’re all pretty into these days – furniture made out of pallets, chalkboards, dark wood and exposed lightbulbs.

Bull City Ciderworks is sourcing their apples from the mountains of NC and their honey locally when possible. The ciders range from honey sweet to hoppy complex brews. They offer a Off Main (classic), Sweet Carolina (honey), Smooth Hoperator (dry hopped), Steep South (steeped with black tea) and Local Harvest #1 (seasonal).

We opted for the flight of four adding the fifth cider for $1. All were good in their own right, but I personally dug the Off Main and the Smooth Hoperator. I’m guessing Smooth Hoperator will be a hit with its punchy IPA-like flavor among beer-lovers who have been forced for forego the gluten.

If you can’t make it to the taproom, we have seen Bull City Ciderworks on tap at Ed Mitchell’s Que.
