So this year more than ever it feels like the entire Bull City is gearing up to do Mardi Gras proper. And to top all the awesome events going on, we just got word that the Esquire Network’s Brew Dogs will be attending and filming Durham’s Mardi Gras parade.

There’s even an official site.

FRIDAY:

The events kick off on Friday with the Pinhook’s Queer di Gras – “This gay ass extravaganza invites you to dress to impress in your finest feathers, glitter and masks. Do it!”  More info. here.

SATURDAY:

The South Durham Farmer’s Market is celebrating Samedi Gras with the Bulltown Strutters from 10 am to 11 am. La Farm Bakery will be there with king cake samples. Read more here.

The folks behind Spectre Arts and Saltbox are throwing a low country boil.  Hey Pocky Way will be held at the trotter building on Saturday afternoon. It’s $25 bucks for food and music. Phil Cook and friends along with the Bulltown Strutters will provide tunes. All proceeds go to the Hillside Marching Band. From the organizers, “Live crawfish coming in from New Orleans that day, traditional low-country ingredients like sausage and corn, all seasoned and boiled on-site at Spectre Arts. It’s going to be a site (and scent!) to behold.” There will also be Ponysaurus beer on tap. More info. here.

That same evening, Motorco is throwing a crawfish boil. They’re brining a shipment of the critters from the coast that afternoon. Their event kicks off at 6pm. They’ll have Abita and mango hurricanes. There’s also a “mason dixon” burlesque show. Details here.

Also Papa Mojos is hosting a Mardi Gras Ball on Saturday night. It’s $25 and comes with free masks and beads, music and dancing.

SUNDAY:

Pinhook is showing a New Orleans film about a legendary New Orleans piano player at noon. Suggested $5 donation. More here.

TUESDAY:

Geer Street Garden is bringing back their annual New Orleans themed menu and special cocktails.

The official Durham Mardi Gras parade kicks off at 7 pm at the Bull and meanders down to the Motorco for the official party which usually spills over into the Bar Durham, Fullsteam and Surf Club. Krewes are forming and meeting at 6:30. Join in this family-friendly parade. The Rigsbee block party will have ten performances, five stages, all be free to the community.

Motorco’s Parts & Labor will have seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, chicken/sausage jambalaya starting at 4pm.

Fullsteam is showing the movie Flashdance.

Looking for king cake? Whole Food seems to be the spot in Durham or you can order from Papa Mojos.

Laissez les bon temps roulez!

Will update as we hear more.
