2013 New Year’s Eve in the Bull City

Posted by DID 29 Dec 2013 No Comments

I wasn’t going to do a list of New Year’s festivities this year, but we received several requests and emails – so here ya go – a quick list. As usual, it’s in no way complete.

Our money is on the Wusses and the Pusses Yacht Rock Motorboat New Years at Motorco. This party is aways a good time with throw-back tunes, seventies nautical costumes, amateur fireworks, a balloon drop and plenty of free champagne at midnight. Bonus this year – the food at Motorco’s new Parts & Labor window and an excuse to dress up like the characters in American Hustle. It’s $18 at the door. The Wusses singing “Baby, come back,” is worth the price of admission.

The Pinhook will once again be dropping the bull’s ball. This is a great spot for New Year’s if you’re looking to get all hot and sweaty on the dance floor. This year, they’ll have members of Sylvan Esso and DJ Dudefemme. They’re encouraging folks to dress in a black and white – but don’t go the tux route – they’re suggesting white body paint and black leather. It’s only $8.

For those looking for a more classy New Years with a fun band – the Casbah might be your spot. Peter Lamb and the Wolves will take the stage once again for this New Year’s shindig playing their brand of nuevo jazz. It should be a good time and a great place for a cocktail dress and suit. December 31st also marks the last night for the Casbah. It’s a $15 cover.

Art of Cool and Cuban Revolution are teaming up to present YahZarah. This is sure to be one of Durham’s classiest New Year’s celebrations and a great option for fans of jazz. $75 is the cheapest ticket, but that includes a tapas bar and free champagne at midnight.

Surf Club – $5 – Shirlette is playing, DJ, “just a bar, just a party”
