Biscuits at Wimpy’s Grill

Posted by CDB 27 Sep 2013 3 Comments

My love affair with Wimpy’s burgers is well documented and has since developed into a sordid triangle when I invited the biscuits to join the burger and me.  These days I can’t step into the little chuckwagon without two biscuits: a chicken fillet and a butter and jelly.  Strawberry, please.

No, these are not the immaculate concoctions of Rise, but I defy you to find a better biscuit at such a price.  Here is the chicken fillet biscuit.  The chicken always comes out fresh and just juicy enough to combat the buttermilk biscuit.  The consistent crunch is also a nice foil to the pillowy biscuit.  And like any good Southern fried chicken, it has a mellow heat behind it.  This order tends to take a few extra minutes because the chicken doesn’t hit the fryer until Larry calls the order back.

Not only this much is true, but also add to the mix a new item on the menu at Wimpy’s.  Well, as of yet it isn’t officially on the menu but a handwritten sign.

The least sexy food on camera, sure, but this biscuit with gravy is superb.  I tried it a while back when it first appeared as a special and only recently had occasion to get there with my local sausage gravy expert.  My suspicions were confirmed that this is likely the best biscuit and gravy in town.  The fluffy biscuit is smothered in a generous helping of heavily peppered gravy.  This is one dish that will stay hot for a while, so pick one up for lunch and eat it at your desk–your coworkers will hate/respect you.  Ask for it with a fried egg if you’re feeling particularly saucy.

Hours are Mon-Fri, 7am-2pm.  Cash only.

I’ve tried this recently as well! The biscuits are huge and delicious. The gravy is packed with sausage bits. I am so happy about this addition to the menu. Now if only they were open on weekends!

I know! Saturday morning would be perfect for a Wimpy’s double-cheeseburger biscuit with egg and bacon experiment.

It looks like a pretty good deal at $1.89! While we don’t have a Wimpy’s Grill in the Minneapolis area, we have many establishments that serve something very similar to this. I would put this in the category of “tastes great, and indulge on rare occasions.”
