The Patron

On our way to grab tacos at La Vaquita, we spotted a newly opened Mexican restaurant on Hillsborough St., The Patron. With a more upscale decor, I had high hopes that The Patron would offer something different. I hoped it would offer authentic upscale Mexican dishes like El Coyote or at least tacos. In a strip mall with a tienda and in a space that used to be a taqueria on a road lined with taco trucks, I hoped The Patron would offer more than the Speedy Gonzales special #5. It did not.

The benefit of The Patron is that it does offer those large, frozen margaritas, the bowls of queso and the cheap beer. It offers the appeal of the taco/enchilada/tamale combo plate. And unlike other similar spots, it’s not walking distance from campus.

The reviews on here have been really lazy for quite some time, but this one wins the award for laziest.

We are working behind the scenes to reinvigorate the blog. Don’t give up on Carpe Durham yet!

Yes! We really appreciate you feedback. Please rest assured it doesn’t fall of deaf ears. Much behind the scenes is happening to bolster postings, diversify, and overall increase the dialogue of this great city’s food places!

We eat there often because: (1) you can eat out on the patio and even bring a dog; (2) it’s fairly inexpensive and the food is fresh; (3) they will make you a dish to order; (4) it has a comfortable dining room (unlike vaquita across the way which is a horrible place to sit).
