La Cacerola

Tragedy led to the shuttering of Kebab & Curry at the end of 2012 and even four months later, it was somewhat of a surprise to see the lights on in its old building. A family has transformed the spot into a Honduran restaurant called La Cacerola.

Small and cozy, La Cacerola feels like someone has invited you into their home for dinner. The owners are warm and welcoming and quick to offer ordering advice. We started off with two of the $2 oversized glasses aguas frescas. The pineapple was the winner,  full of fresh pineapple pulp.

We tried the chilaquiles appetizer,  the carne asada, the fried tilapia and camarones al ajillo. With each entree you have the choice of three sides, options include black beans with onions, black beans with chorizo, guacamole, white rice, brown rice, plantains, potato salad, green salad, and more.

The chilaquiles were excellent -  - fresh tortilla strips topped with shredded chicken, a spicy tomato sauce, cheese and a fried egg. The tilapia, a whole lightly fried fish, was fresh, flavorful and, at only $11, a really good deal. Paired with guacamole (which was actually more of an avocado salad), plantains and black beans, it was enough food to feed two people and still have leftovers. The shrimp was indulgent covered in a rich, creamy garlic sauce. The carne asada was the only mistep – the strips of steak just a little too done for our liking.

La Cacerola is offering breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week and despite what the menu says, they are open every day from 10am-9pm. They also offer carry-out and deliver within a five mile radius.

My sweetie and I went there tonight. Excellent food, just as described above. The service was awesome. Love a shop where they let you know they really enjoy your business.

question: to me, cacerola suggests soups and stews. Does La Cacerola offer anything in these categories? I can’t find a web site, and this report doesn’t suggest.
