New Year’s Eve in Durham
A quick list of happenings around the Bull City in no particular order.
SCRAP EXCHANGE
Kids’ New Year’s Eve overnight sleepover. Great idea for parents. Drop kids off at 7 pm the 31st and pick them up at 9 am on January 1st. Ages 8-12.
Cost:
$90 (includes all projects, an evening snack, & breakfast. Adults will be on hand supervising the event)
THE COTTON ROOM
The Cotton Room and The Art of Cool Project join forces for new years.
General admission gets you:
Music/Performances/
The Foreign Exchange, the Al Strong Quintet, Marcus Anderson and Yolanda
Rabun. Guest DJ Apple Juice Kid and two of our favorite Durham rappers Toon
and The Real Laww.
Eats:
A chicken-and-waffles breakfast buffet
Cost:
$75 per person, drink wristbands, cabanas and VIP options are also
available.
BROAD STREET CAFÉ
Music/Performances/
Jkutchma, Spiralfire, B Side Project, Hog

Complimentary champagne of beers toast at midnight

MONKEY BOTTOM
New Year’s Beave Dance Party
Hosted by Durham’s Beaver Queen, Furrah Gnawsett-Major, wigs encouraged.
Entertainment:
Starting around 9pm, several of your favorite people, from bands such as Blue-Tailed Skinks and Lester Fricks. (If you want to play along, bring your instrument) At 10:30pm, the Beauty Operators, followed by a classic MoBo iPod dance party.
BYOB
THE PINHOOK
Illegal Launch Party NYE Pinhook
Worth noting for this shindig – the Pinhook has started the tradition of dropping bull balls for New Year’s Eve.
Entertainment:
hosted by Durty Durham Arts Collective, featuring local and guest djs (dj Shahzad, Treee City, Trademark, Queen Plz, Toon, Laww), photographers, stripper poles, mayhem and debauchery. A celebration of all things illegal.
Eats/Drinks:
American Meltdown truck will be outside. Drink specials all night.
Cost:
$7
Again, they drop bull balls.
MOTORCO
Motorboat New Year’s Eve Party
Entertainment:
Our favorite local cover band, the Wusses return to Motorco to ring in 2013. Retro yacht wear is encouraged.(Heartfelt, un-ironic covers of such seventies’ hits as Player’s Baby Come Back are worth pulling out the nautical wear). A secret all-girls’ cover band will open and promised to be highly amusing.
Balloon drop at midnight.
Eats/Drinks:
Free hors d’oeuvres. Kokyu/other trucks out front. Free champagne toast.
Cost:
$12 advance tickets will be available until midnight 12/13
$15 advance tickets will be available until midnight 12/30
Day of tickets are $18
THE BAR DURHAM
Fire and Ice New Year’s Eve Party
Eats/Drinks:
Free champagne at midnight. Hor d’oeuvres 8-10pm. Drink specials.
Cost:
$10 members, $15 non-members.

BULL MCCABES
Haven’t heard anything specific, but they usually do it up big time with a DJ, free champagne toast, new year’s eve hats/beads/whistles/confetti/etc.
BULL CITY BURGER AND BREWERY
Family-freindly new years with special menu.
Cost:
$30 adults, $15 kids under 12, $10 for beer pairing. 8:30 PM toast.
REVOLUTION
Special menu, two seatings.
