Hart’s Carryout Cafe

I have been driving past Hart’s Carryout Cafe (608 N. Mangum) since last year, but it always seemed to be closed. It looks like it is now open for business on a regular basis.

I’m not sure about the “best home cooked food in Durham” claim, but they do have reasonable food at incredibly good prices.  The menu includes lots of standard fast food options (burgers – $2.25, hotdogs – $1.55, sausages – $1.89) and some Southern soul food (croaker sandwich – $3, porkchop sandwich – $3.50).

Hart’s isn’t a bad place to stop if you are near downtown and just want something quick.  And, they deliver!

Banana pudding

Like you I’ve driven by this place dozens of times, but have never stopped. I really liked the kids who were dressed in ketchup and mustard squeeze bottles some time last year – very cute. Maybe now that the weather is better they’ll be back out.
