Now I have to go back and look for the bottle opener.

They still do have that giant LATINO sign. I was surprised to see it because I had only ever noticed the abierto sign, despite driving by every day for a year.

This "tienderia" was one of the earlier such places in Durham. I think I visited there at least as early as 2000. Some of the nicest staff, ever. And the easiest way to identify the veteran diners from newbies was to see who knew where the secret-hidden-in-plain-sight bottle opener was.

On weekends they used to serve menudo out of a monster pot.

Used to be, also, they had a big green/red/white "LATINO" sign mounted high on the store front. That's how it was findable in the daytime. Now they have the neon for finding it at night.
