I've yet to find great huevos rancheros in the area. Please be sure to let us all know when you find a great version!

Mexican food is still a fairly new discovery for me, I am of Caribbean descent, and it was pretty alien to me up until 4 years ago when i moved to durham...

But, at least I can speak spanish at the counter...that makes things easier, but not always...lol

thanks...I'll try azteca this weekend!

Oh, well--thanks for the tip, anyway. Maybe I will check out the chilaquiles the next time I'm feeling adventurous.

The only Mexican place open before 11 am? Have you ever tried Azteca Grill? I think that they open earlier, plus they have great huevos rancheros, PLUS during weekends they often have a BAND consisting of men wearing cowboy boots and matching button-downs. A merry cowbell accompanies many of their songs.

Order carefully if you go, though; they have some fairly icky Americanized items on the menu. Also, if they have the caldo de pollo (one of the few I've seen in the area), I strongly advise ordering it.

sorry bout that! I usually pass on the Huevos and go for the chilaquiles or Pozole for breakfast if hungover. and they usually have ALL of their caldos available on weekend mornings, as I always see a number of men quietly hunched over their big bowls.

one thing i'll say too, it's definitely not as great since they changed hands about a year ago, and the young girl they have waiting tables in the morning is pretty useless most weekends when we go, always forgetting the tortillas on the side.

it's still quite comforting to me, and the only mexican place open before 11am.

I'll make it up to ya. ;)
